New Cyrus Products |
|
|
Cyrus has been busy not only developing a new CD player, but indeed new ways to read CD's in the first place! What they have produced has been titled the Servo Evolution models, or 'SE' for short, which in many ways rewrites the rule book on CD player design. Unlike the majority of CD players on the market that use off the shelf drive mechanisms, Cyrus has decided that building one from scratch to exacting specifications yields much better results. Less errors and better transmission of the digital data with the player itself ultimately leads to better performance... and what a performance! The new CD6se, CD8se and CDXTse (transport) are comparable with the best players available today and have to be heard to be believed - on demonstration now! Available in brushed black and quartz silver. |

The Arcam Solo Mini punches well above its weight, delivering true hi-fi sound with all the convenience and niceties we expect from a modern machine. With a beautiful scrolling display and CD, DAB, FM, iPod functionality all catered for, all you need do is add speakers that will do this little system justice - and we have found the perfect match!

CD17 which redefines performance on a budget, and at the other extreme is the benchmark CD37; a no-compromise DSD based DAC design. Amplifier requirements are catered for with no fewer than 3 new models in the form of the A18, A28 and flagship A38. Each amplifier features changes to the pre-amp stage and signal path by way of a complete redesign along with the incorporation of proprietary damping materials - the results are unmistakeable and take Arcam to a new level of performance.
Pop in and listen to what these amazing products can do, they look as good as they sound!

New Spendor Models |
|
|
| Spendor has long been regarded as one of the finest speaker manufactures operating in the UK and their new range of speakers only seeks to confirm this position. Following on from the unprecedented Spendor SA1 signature stand-mount speaker in it's striking high gloss 'zebrano' finish, the new 'A' line series is set to replace the highly regarded 'S' series and we at PJ are proud to be amongst the very first to have heard these fantastic speakers. The A5 is a compact floor standing design with a twin mid / bass driver assembly to enhance performance whilst retaining the slim dimensions of the unit. Its bigger brother the A6 trades this against a much larger, single mid / bass driver in a taller and wider cabinet with a far simpler crossover design. The results are fantastic and will no doubt win the hearts of all those who listen to them - these superb speakers finally combine Spendor's trademark lucid midrange with a healthy dose of dynamics and rhythm; taking the Spendor sound to new levels. On demonstration now! |

| Bristol Show Report 2010 |
The now famous annual Bristol Show continues to pull in the crowds and 2010 has been no exception; with some of the very best of British hi-fi leading the way.
Naim Audio
Following hot on the heals of the Uniti, the new Naim Uniti Qute offers a pint-pot sized variant with a similar feel and favour. This remarkably compact all-in-one micro wonder will stream audio via UPnP, offers internet radio alongside the obligatory FM / DAB variants, internal amplification based on the award winning Naim Nait 5i-2, as well as catering for the connection of the ubiquitous iPod and solid-state audio via USB... all this and that renowned Naim audio quality... what more could you ask for!?
Arcam
Arcam were proudly demonstrating their flagship AV products in the form of the AV500 and AV600 receivers and the of course the reference AV888 and P777 AV processor / power amp combination. As always these gorgeous units were generating some class leading sound for AV equipment and sounded good enough to put many a two-channel product to shame. But perhaps the most interesting aspect was a hidden little Arcam gem in the form of a new prototype wireless DAC. When we get a functioning unit available for testing, we will put it through its paces and let you know.
Rega
Rega were of course making a large fuss over their new reference CD player / amplifier combination in the for of the ISIS and OSIRIS; a pair of stealthily black units with striking red displays and built into absolutely bomb-proof casework. They sounding simply stunning and clearly grabbed the attention of those passing by the open demo room door; with dynamic ease they thundered through a lighting fast orchestral piece with huge bravado with seemingly endless headroom (impressive considering the room size) and yet equally impressive with quieter passages. Clearly these two products deserve further investigation and have been made with a large dose of both talent and love... looking forward to having them premier in the shop in the not too distant future.
Dynaudio
A recent addition to PJ, Dynaudio were making all the right noises in their dedicated demonstration room; proving just how good a small speaker can be! Powered on the day by Chord Electronics, the music was always highly musical and always cleanly resolved. The Dynaudio's sounded transparent and engaging without ever straying into becoming fatiguing; a typical Dynaudio presentation and one I could have quite happily listened to all day truth be told! Arguably our personal favourite at PJ presently is the incredible Focus 110, which continues to wow us for both stereo and AV use... pop in and take a listen!

| *NAIM FLAGSHIP OVATOR S-600 LOUDSPEAKER ARRIVES!* |
After much anticipation and a great deal of excitement, PJ Hi-Fi were delighted to take delivery yesterday of the brand new Naim S-600 loudspeaker design - the revolutionary 'OVATOR' featuring a unique BMR driver arrangement developed exclusively by Naim Audio.
The 'OVATOR S-600' represents a turning point in Naim's loudspeaker designs and introduces what is certain to be a completely new range of BMR equipped units. This particular featured driver has been long in development at Naim HQ, being of proprietary design and of great technical complexity. The BMR driver is in part a hybrid flat panel driver that demonstrates pistonic action at a certain frequency and does away with the traditional high frequency 'tweeter' drivers of old and their inherent limitations. Offering instead greatly improved bandwidth, completely smooth frequency response and far greater successful integration with other mid/bass drivers.
The results are quite simply sensational and, as proved at our recent Naim Roadshow where the 'OVATORS' were put well and truly through their paces, this is a speaker of considerable talent and enviable quality; surely the 'OVATOR S-600' represents a complete quantum shift forward in terms of both design philosophy and technical implementation - establishing Naim Audio as a true market-leader with the introduction of the world's first high-end speaker design featuring bespoke BMR driver technology.
Our demonstration pair of 'OVATORS' in their striking black zebrano finish have now taken residence in our purpose built demonstration room, being fed by some equally delightful Naim Audio electronics... naturally. As one of the few exclusive stockists in the UK, PJ Hi-Fi invites you to be amongst the very first to hear this enthralling speaker in action!
Call today to book a demonstration appointment, or just pop by and take a listen - it may well change the way you think about your music!

| NEW Neat Acoustics Elite-SX Loudspeaker on Demonstration |

Neat Acoustics have long held a fond place in our hearts here at PJ Hi-Fi due to their endlessly enjoyable and highly musical loudspeaker designs; a view that has only been strengthened by their latest speaker offering, the Elite-SX.
Sitting between the delightful Motive series and the phenomenal Momentum series, there has been a gap in Neat's arsenal that demanded a high quality yet compact floorstander; a place that has now admirably been filled by this new sonic champion.
Unlike most bass reflex designs, the Elite-SX incorporates an innovative staggered port tuning design. This carefully judged system delivers a very convincing full-bodied bass performance, far more impressive than might be expected for such a small enclosure. The cabinet is raised above a plinth of solid slate, chosen for its superior bass control and midrange precision.
The main drive unit is unchanged, but the tweeter used in the SX is a soft-fabric dome type with internal damping and a non-resonant chamber. This tweeter's strengths of superb dynamic contrast and accurate tonal colour are well matched to those of the main drive unit.
The Elite-SX takes up less space than a small standmount speaker on a stand. It can also be positioned very close to room boundaries, making it highly adaptable and versatile in use.
Call in today to take a listen to these small wonders, it could be just the tonic your Hi-Fi has been looking for!

| Linn Dynamik Open Day |

Just a quick thank you to those who made it along to our special Linn Dynamik Open Day Event on Thursday 3rd September; it was good to see you all and have the opportunity to listen to the new Dynamik PSU's in action - I think you will agree that the differences were marked and clearly superior overall. Naturally the day itself has past, but the opportunity to take advantage of the sonic potential the Dynamik upgrades have to offer, is still very much current. Feel free to drop us a line if you would like to discuss how you can improve your Linn component utilising the Dynamik PSU or see our dedicated 'Linn Dynamik Upgrade' section for some very special (and limited) offers.

| Wilson Benesch A.C.T. C60 |

Wilson Benesch have continued to remain active in regards to speaker designs that fall within their 'wide bandwidth' range, the first of which was the incredible 'Trinity' stand-mount model featuring the 'Sphere' super HF driver unique to Wilson Benesch. The 'Trinity' was designed to work in partnership with the 'Torus' Infrasonic Generator (dedicated Wilson Benesch subwoofer) in order to cover the widest possible frequency spectrum, however this necessitated the utilisation of several units working together to effectively achieve a singular result. With this in mind the engineers turned their attention towards the natural successor to this 'wide bandwidth' philosophy and focused upon a far more focused implementation - the quintessentially Wilson Benesch 'A.C.T' floor-standing loudspeaker; a design that up until this point had not yet embraced the advances pioneered by the 'Trinity'.
Enter the A.C.T C60 in standard and special limited editions; a speaker that pushes the boundaries of loudspeaker design and truly looks as good as it sounds... which is simply magical since you ask! This speaker really does have everything going for it, with a presence and naturalness that is as effortless as it is sublime. Macro and micro scale dynamics are handled with huge confidence and rhythm and timing is as assured as any one with their finger on the pulse could wish for. It has bags of musicality, acres of breathing space and digs deeper into your recording than you ever thought possible! If sheer musical involvement could be bottled and made available to all, it would surely come in a package that looks like an A.C.T C60!
Call for more details or to book and demonstration of this phenomenal loudspeaker.

| Arcam AVP888 & P777 |

Arcam certainly leap-frogged the competition and exceeded all expectations when they recently launched their flagship AVR600 AV receiver to mass critical acclaim; firmly cementing them at the very forefront of high-end British home cinema and providing us with a new standard by which other AV receivers should be judged... and that was merely the beginning!
Hot on the heals of the AVR600 comes Arcam's answer to the home cinema enthusiast who simply demands the best without compromise - the dedicated AV888 AV processor and matching P777 multi channel power amplifier; a combo that is set to redefine both the feature set and sonic performance of high end AV processing and pre-amplification. The result of a massive 2 1/2 year ground-up development programme by Arcam, it features all new state of the art audio stages and fully balanced audio connectivity. Combined with its natural partner, P777 power amplifier, the AV888 represents a new standard for AV amplification.
This list of features is extensive to say the least, with state of the art Analog Devices ADSP-21366 & ADSP-21367 DSPs for surround decoding, dedicated Wolfson 8471 high end 24bit 192kHz audio DAC's, precision electronic volume control, 5 HDMI inputs & 2 outputs (upscaling to 1080p Deep Colour standard), fully independent video / frame rate conversion assignable per input, Dolby Volume audio processing, to mention just a few of the many strings to it's bow. Naturally the unit also supports Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Digital+, Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Pro Logic IIx, DTS HD Master Audio, DTS High Resolution Audio, DTS-ES Discrete, DTS-ES Matrix, DTS96/24, DTS Neo:6 and has options for up to 3 zones (2 variable and one fixed) as well as the obligatory RS232, 12 volt triggers & IP control over Ethernet for custom installation purposes.
I could go on, but that would be to neglect the most important aspect of this systems credentials - that is its absolutely jaw-droppingly good audio performance! Never has home cinema sounded this good or this real and never has an AV product sounded so competent as a high-end hi-fi prospect. Such is its abilities that both the AV888 and P777 have taken up permanent residence in our reference digital cinema - an honour that is bestowed upon only a handful of products that can adequately define themselves simply as 'the best'.
To hear why the local Odeon rates a poor second when put alongside our cinema, you owe it to yourself to hear these products in action! So drop us a line today to book an appointment and experience just how good home cinema can really be.

| Cyrus XP Series |

Slipping in under the radar and following on from their recently introduced 'Servo Evolution' CD player developments, Cyrus Audio has been hard at work improving its dedicated amplifier range. What they have produced is a brand new line of amplifiers that cater for the even the most demanding of modern customers; with significant increases in the levels of performance on offer and an almost limitless ability to connect anything and everything you could possibly ask for! - the new 'XP' series has arrived.
The 'XP' range is built up of new Pre, 6 and 8 series components all of which have benefited from a complete redesign from the ground up. The new 'XP' amplifiers now include many new features such a second zone output, digital input switching, USB computer connectivity, on-board DAC's and even more power. Incredibly they also now consume a fraction of the standby power of the previous models and gain the user-friendly LCD user interface from the DAC XP.
The inclusion of a fantastic quality on-board DAC (which can be improved still further with the addition of a Qx DAC module on the 8 series) allows for digital devices to be simply and easily connected directly to the amplifier, without the need for additional boxes; thus keeping the impact of your hi-fi on your environment to an absolute minimum... a blessing I'm sure to those who desire order rather than clutter in their living room!
These amplifiers continue a long line of successful Cyrus designs, which display all the same virtues which made their predecessors so desirable - a rock solid and tangible musical presence, full of life and vitality that engages you so completely with the musical performance that they will have you playing music into the early hours!
As with the 'SE' players before, the new 'XP' series seeks only to confirm Cyrus' position as one of the most forward thinking British hi-fi manufactures operating today. They continue to create stunning yet simple designs that provide music of epic proportions from one or two tiny little boxes - wonderful!
Pop in and take a listen to just how good these 'singing-shoeboxes' can be!

| *NEW PRODUCT* Naim Uniti on Demonstration Now! |
For the first time Naim Audio has distilled all its knowledge of cutting edge hi-fi into one highly compact, highly flexible and ultra desirable box - the Naim Uniti has finally arrived!
Naim has time and time again staked its reputation on achieving first class sound without compromise, a feat made all the more difficult when pursuing the design of a multifunction product in a single box. Long has it been believed that this would be simply a step too far; a statement too bold and one which would be ultimately unachievable... and yet here it is! An all singing, all dancing single box that not only lives up to Naim Audio's own self determined superior sonic standards, but also delivers CD replay, DAB / FM and Internet Radio reception, direct iPod control with interface, USB input, integrated amplification and streaming device in one neat package.

Pop in a disc and take it for a spin or indeed connect it to your home network and free the potential of your computer based music library. Perhaps you would like to listen to that live radio concert broadcast you've been waiting for, keep apprised of the latest news via the local stations or the BBC World Service; maybe you wish to enhance the audio from your TV or indeed connect any other source you can possibly think of via one of the 5 analogue inputs. Better still why not connect your other equipment via one of the 4 digital inputs provided and take advantage of the Uniti's superior onboard DAC - the possibilities are truly endless!
Pop in store today and you will be amazed at how good one box can really sound!

| Naim HDX Hard Disk Player : An audiophile jukebox... at last! |
We are pleased to announce the launch of Naim's newest and most highly anticipated product, the HDX Hard Disk Player. This revolutionary device brings together for the first time Naim's unsurpassed audio quality along with the functionality of music server technology, in one discreet package.

Proprietary bit for bit ripping of CD's in a pure uncompressed form onto twin 400GB hard drives gives unheard of accuracy and stability. This together with a beautifully integrated touch screen interface makes for a system that sounds every bit as sophisticated as it looks. With the ability to connect to a home network, the HDX automatically uploads artwork and track information from the internet as well as allowing for the streaming of audio to up to 6 different zones simultaneously. Naturally the HDX performs to the standards we have come to expect from Naim's top of the line CD players and can be easily upgraded in a similar fashion to these devices via additional power supplies.

Although server technology has been around for sometime, it has never looked or sounded this good before. Call in today for a demonstration to listen and see for yourself.

| Mystery Shopper checks out PJ hi-fi... |
Each month ERTWeekly send a mystery shopper to check up on the sales skills of an unsuspecting town's electrical retailers - this time it was Guildford!
'Walk out of the station and cross the river and one of the first shops you encounter is PJ hi-fi. From the outside, the premises looks a little dull - not a lot has been spent on presentation - but looks, yet again, were deceptive. This was a real gem.'

| New EPOS 'M' Series Speaker |
 |
We are pleased to announce that the new EPOS 'M' series of speakers
are available for demonstration in store today. This improved range
of speakers builds upon the strength and quality of its predecessor,
which was a highly regarded design with natural musicality ability.
Now EPOS has pushed this envelope still further with a striking new
line-up that features a wealth of improvements from both aesthetic and
sonic standpoints.
The new M5i and M12i, which replace the M5 and M12.2 series speaker
respectively, have a completely new cabinet design and finish. This
box itself now displays chamfered edges with improved internal bracing
and a substantially thicker front baffle construction, all wrapped in
carefully book-matched real wood veneers. The crossover has also been
greatly improved with the use of high quality all-film capacitors and
hand finishing on all internal wiring and connections. |
| Indeed, even the speaker chassis itself has been revised
and is now of a cast aluminium construction over the previous version's
plastic variety. All of which takes an already capable and enjoyable speaker
to a new heightened level of performance, involvement and musicality -
come in today and experience the new EPOS 'M' series for yourself, we
love them and you will too! |

| Naim NS01 |
The first ever server from Naim has arrived! Capable of storing your CD collection in an uncompressed format it delivers an unprecedented level of sound quality previously unheard of from conventional computer based server solutions.
Impressively, it can offer sound quality potentially greater than that of the original CD itself by over sampling the disc many times to end up with a correct bit for bit copy.

On the front of the unit a USB connector allows easy connection of your mp3 player/ipod, the NS01 will then instantly add all of the content to the servers music database.
The Hard disc is duplicated to prevent loss of data and further cost effective NAS drives can be added for additional storage space as your collection expands. This is a hugely exciting development for us as it promises to bring server technology to the discerning audiophile for the first time. On demonstration now £3000.
