New Cyrus Products
New Cyrus Products
Cyrus has been busy not only developing a new CD player, but indeed new ways to read CD's in the first place! What they have produced has been titled the Servo Evolution models, or 'SE' for short, which in many ways rewrites the rule book on CD player design. Unlike the majority of CD players on the market that use off the shelf drive mechanisms, Cyrus has decided that building one from scratch to exacting specifications yields much better results. Less errors and better transmission of the digital data with the player itself ultimately leads to better performance... and what a performance! The new CD6se, CD8se and CDXTse (transport) are comparable with the best players available today and have to be heard to be believed - on demonstration now!
Available in brushed black and quartz silver.
Arcam Solo Mini & Alto
Arcam Solo Mini & Alto
Arcam took the fabulous Solo Music and made it smaller, whilst retaining the wonderful sound quality and adding in a dash of iPod compatibility and drop dead gorgeous good looks to boot. The result is a phenomenal little box that literally reinvents what we've come to expect from a small all-in-one system! The Arcam Solo Mini punches well above its weight, delivering true hi-fi sound with all the convenience and niceties we expect from a modern machine. With a beautiful scrolling display and CD, DAB, FM, iPod functionality all catered for, all you need do is add speakers that will do this little system justice - and we have found the perfect match!
Arcam's Alto stand-mount, (or just on a shelf) speakers truly make the most of this musical machine and all from an ultra compact, beautifully finished design. Finished in silver they match the Solo Mini visually as well as sonically, so pop in store to have a listen for yourself!
New Arcam Models
New Arcam Models
A whole new range of Arcam Hifi separates are now available and on demonstration in store today. Each component has been heavily revised and incorporates Arcam's all new FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) casework. Amongst these are a new entry level CD player. CD17 which redefines performance on a budget, and at the other extreme is the benchmark CD37; a no-compromise DSD based DAC design. Amplifier requirements are catered for with no fewer than 3 new models in the form of the A18, A28 and flagship A38. Each amplifier features changes to the pre-amp stage and signal path by way of a complete redesign along with the incorporation of proprietary damping materials - the results are unmistakeable and take Arcam to a new level of performance.
Pop in and listen to what these amazing products can do, they look as good as they sound!
Be warned though, as you will want one after you have heard it.
New Spendor Models
New Spendor Models
Spendor has long been regarded as one of the finest speaker manufactures operating in the UK and their new range of speakers only seeks to confirm this position. Following on from the unprecedented Spendor SA1 signature stand-mount speaker in it's striking high gloss 'zebrano' finish, the new 'A' line series is set to replace the highly regarded 'S' series and we at PJ are proud to be amongst the very first to have heard these fantastic speakers. The A5 is a compact floor standing design with a twin mid / bass driver assembly to enhance performance whilst retaining the slim dimensions of the unit. Its bigger brother the A6 trades this against a much larger, single mid / bass driver in a taller and wider cabinet with a far simpler crossover design. The results are fantastic and will no doubt win the hearts of all those who listen to them - these superb speakers finally combine Spendor's trademark lucid midrange with a healthy dose of dynamics and rhythm; taking the Spendor sound to new levels. On demonstration now!
Arcam

about us

One of the most frequently asked questions is "why PJ?"

The answer is that the original owner of the business, which started, as PJ Equipments in the late 1940's, was a very forward thinking man called Peter John Oram.
The business operated initially from premises in Onslow Street, where they were the only shop in Guildford selling and hiring out PA Equipment, sound systems specifically for cinemas, Juke Boxes and Hi-fi equipment of a decent quality, so PJ is Guildford's original hi-fi shop.
Names that are still prominent today which were featured then included QUAD and Wharfedale.

With the advent of the major development that became The Friary Centre, in the 1970's, PJ Equipment moved to the present location in Bridge Street.
The business evolved through the 70's and 80's, until 1989 when Richard Taunton took over and changed the name to PJ Hi-fi, thereby retaining the original identity and adapting to the more modern terminology associated with the products being sold.
Many exclusive brands were introduced to the discerning Guildford customers for the first time, including Linn, Meridian, NAD, Rotel, Kef Reference, Mission, B&W, Nakamichi, Thorens, Yamaha, and then later on Rega, Cyrus, Tag McLaren, Denon, Naim.

The addition of an on site Service Department, has proved to be a great success, and reassurance, to the many customers who have experienced problems with older equipment, and of course items covered by the 2 year guarantee offered by PJ Hi-fi.

All of the staff work in the busy shop environment, dealing with customers on a day-to-day basis, helping them to select the right sounding systems to meet their budgets, this is done by demonstration in one of the comfortable listening rooms.

With more and more customers' requirements progressing from purely 2 channel (stereo) towards multi channel audio for both music and film, and multi-room applications, PJ has moved rapidly into these new areas.

PJ Hi-fi has always been keen to ensure that the system or individual components purchased have been installed correctly and of course this is even more important with complicated multi component, multi room and Home Cinema systems.

The room also has an automated Lutron lighting system and air conditioning for listening comfort.
