Naim CD555 and PS555

Well, who would have thought that anyone would be building a statement compact disc product today? A 'last word' design, and it's almost taking the mickey that it can't read any other formats either! But never let it be said that Naim aren't devotees to the 'sound quality is everything' ethic.

 Naim CD555 & PS555

This player, complete with the new Hi-Line interconnect, is the ultimate playback device for the humble 12cm Compact disc that Philips claimed would always sound the same back in 1982. Oh how wrong they were. As a bench mark it completely out performs the awesome CDS3 player that we still hold in such high regard. Cost is high but worth every pound! The Hi-Line and PS555 are available individually as upgrades to other Naim players.

On demonstration in store with Alan

Leema Acoustics...

PJ hi-fi is delighted to announce that we have established a working relationship with Leema Acoustics following a series of great reviews and word of mouth on AV Talk's forum. Leema contacted us after a reader expressed interest in an audition in our area, a request that I was more than happy to fulfil!

Leema Xen

The speaker in question is the Xen monitor, standing at just 10" tall and only 5" wide it is a true miniature speaker designed for wall mount or fits nicely on the Mission Stance stand. Whilst the sides and top are steel with the head of a torque rod visible on both sides the front is a baffle made from a choice of woods and held by a series of bolt heads that add to the industrial look befitting a studio style monitor. Two tiny ports sit astride the soft dome tweeter and above bass unit although these are filled with a rock wool type material to control air flow.

The performance is something to behold, not just because it's easy to be impressed with a tiny speaker purely because of the big sound relative to its tiny proportions, but because of the staggering control, speed and exceptional timing that such good engineering brings. It has always been true that a small speaker can achieve greater clarity and precision because of the freedom from unnecessary resonance and vibration a large cabinet would impart to the sound, and subsequently distort the music but here is the perfect example of this philosophy. Needless to say a large scale room filling sound is not what's on offer but if your taste is for a fast, agile and crystal clear sound in a small room then I'd like to hear anything more entertaining and musically involving. It's necessary to install a good amplifier to get them to reveal their strengths so I had a go with a Naim Nait as well as offerings from Cyrus and Musical Fidelity. All good amps with plenty of drive enough to get the little Xens to sing out loud.

The recent reviews concentrated on the AV side of their ability by combining the matched centre and subwoofer to two pairs of Xens and this is an area where a mini speaker can really come into its own as this is an area where small is beautiful!

Call for a demo and hear them for yourself!

Sony VPL-VW100 (Ruby) - IN STOCK!

Guess where your friends and neighbours will be watching the world cup this year?

Your House!

Introducing the latest projector in the SXRD range from Sony, the VPL-VW100, or Ruby (the development codename), a groundbreaking cinema projector at prices never seen before!

Sony VPL-VW100

The VPL-VW100 is based on its bigger brother, the Qualia 004. Although utilizing lower cost optics and smaller SXRD panels the depth of image and resolution of this model is unrivalled at its price point. With a contrast ratio up to 15,000:1 (with Advanced Iris on), the VPL-VW100 1920 x 1080p projector is built from three micro display panels supporting High Definition 1080p line resolution image. This technology ensures support of better than HD resolution with a film-like image presented in accurate color rendition and high contrast ratio providing you with that 'at home' theater experience you've always desired.

Providing the illumination is a Sony 400W Pure Xenon Lamp providing equal brightness output for each of the primary colors - red, green and blue, which are used to produce the trillions of colors that you as the viewer enjoy on the screen. The projector's Advanced Iris technology also helps to improve images by monitoring algorithms and adjusting the iris diameter so images in bright scenes are crisp and clear while black levels in dark scenes are deep and detailed. And forget the annoying loud projector sounds of the past; the VW100 is designed to remain ultra quiet while it removes heat at a noise spec of just 22dB.

Available in store now with demonstrations by appointment, our experience with Qualia 004 makes us the dealer of choice for this amazing new product.

Calibration Facilities

As well as offering ISF calibration in conjunction with the UK's leading expert in the field, PJ hi-fi can now offer acoustic analysis of your listening room.

After an intense 3 day training course in Sweden at the hands of the acoustic Engineers from Genelec, Elliot Hicks has completed the necessary training to allow accurate measurements to be taken in your listening environment.

speaker positioning speaker mounting acoustic analysis

The benefits of the course were two-fold, to ascertain the knowledge required for accurate placement of speakers, and the methods that should be employed for complete room design and treatment to an ITU specified level. The ITU standard is the internationally recognised specification that all recording studios should adhere to for both music and film mastering. An understanding of these principles, and the means to accurately measure and interpret the data will allow the ultimate music or film reproduction in your home.

At PJ hi-fi we now have the knowledge to build you the ultimate listening room, to studio standards if required, for both film and music. If you are looking to construct a dedicated room with quality in mind, then we would suggest you contact our custom installation department to arrange a consultation.

Our new service to existing customers is also proving very popular, as highlighted above we can offer a room measurement service and calibration report to allow you to truly understand your room, as well as suggesting ways in which you may improve the response of your system. These visits will need to be discussed on an individual basis so please contact Elliot for further details.
