Arcam AVRs Key Features and Benefits
After several months of tweaks and updates the Arcam HDA range, consisting of three Home Cinema AV receivers and one processor, are now fully featured and ready to go. We have current stock and are ready to ship direct with contactless delivery.
The range of receivers and one processor are (moving up through the range) AVR10 / 20 / 30 and finally the AV40 processor. As we progress through the range there is the usual incremental feature introduction we have come to expect.
Channel support increases from 7.1.4 decoding up to 9.1.6, HDMI outputs increase from 2 to 3 and class AB amplification becomes G class using a toroidal transformer.
Yet it’s the shared features across the range which stand out. Namely from entry level through to the top tier model is the inclusion of DIRAC Live® room correction and the ESS9026PRO DAC.
To deal with the DAC first. Without getting too bogged down in technical specifications the 9026 is a 32-bit 8 channel digital to analogue converter. This is the part of the unit which takes the digital audio from disc, stream or broadcast and converts it into an analogue signal to send out to the speakers. The 9026 is targeted at audiophile and studio equipment. This ensures that each part of the HAD range is a perfect multi-tasking unit for both movies and music, living up to Arcam’s heritage in HiFi.
Now to Dirac Live®. For some years now AV receivers have often included ‘calibration mics’ in order to get a basic setup achieved for the novice user. Ultimately this was, and is, trying to make the most of non-ideal speaker placement. Providing (in my experience) mixed results.
Dirac Live® approaches things from a different angle. One of the biggest issues with getting an optimum sound from a two channel or surround sound set-up is the room it is in. Very few rooms in residential properties are designed with sound quality in mind and when buying a home this will of course be a long way down the wish list! Inevitably the interaction between room and speaker will lead to colouration of sound and it is this that DIRAC seeks to rectify. Designed for both home and pro audio DIRAC Live® uses a complex algorithm to analyse both the speakers and the room to correct these colourations.
The direct result of these corrections will be better sound staging, improved clarity of music effects and vocals, as well as deeper tighter bass.
For all these factors the new Arcam HDA range should be top of the list when considering a new system or an upgrade to an existing one.
