NAIM are a company know for their excellence in audio design and engineering, providing some of the best British built hi-fi available today. The new NAIM NDX is no exception to this and has been designed as the ultimate digital music streamer.
The NDX will stream hi-resolution, fully uncompressed music over a Wi-Fi or wired network and features analogue and digital outputs, onboard internet radio (via vTuner), an optional FM / DAB radio module, three digital inputs, dedicated digital connection for iPod / iPhone input and USB playback.
The NDX comes with its own comprehensive remote control that can be used to browse and control all aspects of the units functionality, but is also compatible with the forthcoming variant of NAIM’s n-Stream iPod app.
The onboard DAC has been derived from NAIM’s own dedicated DAC projects and features the phenonminal SHARC DSP-based buffering with fixed clocks plus 16x oversampling and Naim’s own proprietary digital filtering algorithms.
The power supply uses a 200VA toroidal transformer with separate windings while key sections of the NDX are both physically and electrically separated, with optical connections used to improve isolation. Nothing has been left to chance in the pursuit of obtaining the very highest standard of audio output.
The NDX can handle a broad range of audio formats, with the ability to stream up to 24bit / 96kHz resolution MP3, WAV, FLAC, AIFF, AAC, WMA and Ogg Vorbis files, including support for gapless playback.
Direct connection includes three independently selectable digital inputs enable S/PDIF audio signals from CD players, computers and other digital audio sources at up to 24bit / 192kHz resolution. Each digital input comprises a different connection socket option; optical TosLink, coaxial phono and coaxial BNC, to provide greater versatility and optimised sound quality.
