Solidsteel
If you were lucky enough to walk around the Bristol HiFi show this year, you might’ve noticed that quite a few manufacturers and suppliers had elected to use Solidsteel as their rack of choice to make their electronics shine. What better endorsement do you need?
Owned by the Conti family since 1990, Solidsteel, while perhaps a lesser known brand in the UK is actually active in the market in over 30 countries. Based in central Italy it is also the oldest AV furniture brand in the country.
The range is divided into two sections. S series and Hyperspike. Although we at PJ HiFi are currently only ranging the S series – if you are interested in Hyperspike then please let us know!
Covering HiFi racks, vinyl storage and speaker stands (as well as wall shelves and custom kits) the S series has it all.
The VL racks are conceived for the vinyl enthusiast. The lower shelf is designed for the height of standard vinyl sleeves and the 22mm MDF shelves have a high quality walnut laminate finish. With adjustable spikes and customisable heights the VL racks can accommodate even the most extensive of turntable driven set-ups.
The S series racks are split between the S2, 3, 5 and the double width S4. The S3 are rock solid supports for your HiFi components. All come with aluminium support tubes filled with damping material, stainless steel hardware and zinc treated iron terminals. The shelves consist of MDF with a polymer laminate in black, white or walnut (black and white only for the S4). The S2 racks have many of the same features as the S3 but without the damping material in the support tubes, and only in black.
Move up to the S5 and the range progresses from component support into serious HiFi isolation territory. The shelves are split into 2 pieces, the outer decoupled from the inner, providing isolation from the vibrations caused by each component.
The NS and SS speaker stands are split into two very distinctive styles. The NS is aimed at being very much a catch all stand. Perhaps geared as much towards home cinema satellite speakers as bookshelves. The five steel pipes, given ample support by the heavy steel base-plate, are all filled with Stratocell© polyethelene which provides up to Class-A sound absorption. Like the Model-T you can have any colour as long as it’s black!
The flagship SS stands are available in black, white, and the pleasingly industrial raw finish. The three stainless steel tubes with anti-resonance finish form a tripod formation and the removable stainless steel spikes allow filling with the damping material of your choice. The top plate is MDF and is interchangeable to support the widest variety of speakers. Finally three high precision bearings decouple the top plate from the supports.
